Chianti Classico | Classic

Chianti Classico is undoubtedly one of the most famous red wines in Italy, whose distinguishing feature is the black rooster (Gallo Nero) on the banderole. This archetypal Italian red wine is both distinctive and unchanged, respecting tradition both in the vineyard and in the winery. Italy's most famous red wine can call itself 'Chianti Classico DOCG' and is usually made exclusively from Sangiovese with a small percentage of other red grape varieties. If the wine matures in wooden barrels for at least 24 months, it can call itself 'Riserva'. Since 2013, a new highest quality level has been introduced specifically for Chianti Classico, the 'Gran Selezione'.

In summary, Chianti Classico occupies a special position within the various subzones of Chianti, with the brand 'Gallo Nero' explicitly indicating this. Chianti Classico is produced according to the strictest Chianti production rules, which refer to maximum yield, extract content and aging time. The Chianti Classico Consortium, based in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, has adopted these requirements to distinguish itself from the rest of the Chianti area.

In this section you will find exclusively Chianti Classico. This is usually a little stricter and more tannic than the Chianti DOCG, this you will find in a separate section. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
