Falanghina | Grape variety

Falanghina is one of the grape varieties of southern Italy yet to be discovered. Probably of Greek origin, the widely underrated grape is nowadays grown mainly in Campania. Authorized areas of cultivation are also Abruzzo and the island of Sardinia. High quality Falanghina grapes find their way into DOC white wines such as Capri, Costa d'Amalfi, Falerno del Massico, Sannio, Sant' Agata de' Goti, Taburno and Vesuvia.

In the campaign in favor of the rediscovery and valorization of regional grape varieties, Falanghina is experiencing a small renaissance. In honor of Falanghina, a 'Rassegna regionale', a regional wine festival, is held annually at the end of September in the town of Sant'Agata de' Goti. - Gerardo [TS06/23]
