Merlot | Grape variety

The Merlot grape variety is closely associated with the great wines of Bordeaux. Since the grape variety is grown in many wine-producing countries, it is not surprising that the soft and supple Merlot also enjoys extraordinary popularity in Italy. Merlot delights winemakers and wine drinkers alike as a single varietal wine as well as a cuvee component. The grape produces early ripening, full-bodied wines of luscious fruit.

The extremely popular grape variety offers a wide range of wines: from accessible drinking wines to top quality from barrique. Merlot always remains soft and supple, reminiscent of plums and likes to show the typical green-grassy notes. Some of the wines are aged as single varietals, while others are cuvees with other red varieties in barrique, including the classic combination with Cabernet Sauvignon. The powerful Merlots aged in barrique are adequate companions to strong dishes, whereas a simple Merlot is drunk with lighter dishes or 'just like that'. - Gerardo
