Passerina | Grape variety
The white Passerina is an autochthonous grape variety of central Italy. It is found in Abruzzo, Lazio and Umbria, and its cultivation has a long tradition, especially in the Marche region. In the past, it was rarely vinified as a single grape variety, which is why it was used as a complementary grape in the Falerio dei Colli Ascolani DOC. In more recent times there are some producers who make an independent wine only from the Passerina grape, the results are encouraging, sometimes not always convincing. The Passerina has its own characteristic features, like other grape varieties, but these have been neglected because it has always been part of a white wine cuvee. Winemakers who do not shy away from the effort in the vineyard are ultimately rewarded with a distinctive wine. The grape variety is sometimes a little complicated in the vineyard, it also provides a lower sugar content, which is why the white mass Trebbiano was preferred. - Gerardo [TS06/23]
