Pinot-Bianco | Grape variety

Originally a French white wine grape variety, Pinot Blanc is now also widely grown in northern Italy. Pinot Blanc has a delicate almond aroma, animating acidity and good persistence. It produces its most splendid variants in South Tyrol, whose variants, some of which are aged in barriques, display considerable complexity.

Not only the name, but also the high demands of Pinot Blanc on soil and climate indicate a relationship with Pinot Noir. And these demands are high: Pinot-Bianco prefers preferably warm, deep and strong soils in exposed, dry-sunny locations. In the right location, however, the grape variety causes few problems in cultivation.

The dry, elegant Pinot Blanc is an ideal menu wine. The subtle aroma is often reminiscent of apple, pear, apricot and citrus. The medium body of the Pinot Blanc and the pleasantly refreshing acidity distinguish it as a versatile food companion. Thus, Pinot Blanc pairs well with seafood, fish, veal, pork and poultry. Of course, Pinot Bianco also cuts a fine figure as a well-chilled patio wine. - Gerardo [TS11/23]

Great, inviting nose, complex and compact, comes out of the glass exotic, of candied lemon zest, plus hints of ripe pear, dried pineapple, a touch of fumé in the finish. Opens in the mouth salty, brisk, without lacking complexity, rich pressure with a golden core, great, precise tension, very long finish." - Falstaff

´Terlaner I´ · Grande Cuvée DOC 2020, Kellerei Terlan, Südtirol
Terlaner I · Grande Cuvée DOC 2020

Kellerei Terlan, South Tyrol

The sparkling, rich straw-yellow appearance of this wine is impressive. Its aroma is rich and complex; it presents multi-faceted aromas of citrus fruits, white pepper and herbs, accompanied by a delicate smoky note. The taste reveals its elegance and perfect balance, based on a remarkable structure and refined texture. These give it finesse and an unmistakable character. The exceptionally long and salty finish leaves a lasting impression that remains in the memory as the highest expression of a mineral terroir that is unique in the world. - Gerardo [TS03/21]

"We were looking for the perfect arrangement in which to express the innermost, authentic essence of the Terlan Winery. For a wine that would embody our tradition of over a hundred years and combine the greatness of our best vines and vineyard sites. And finally we achieved our goal: Terlaner I Grande Cuvée." - Rudi Kofler

"The bouquet shows tremendous impact: teeming with fruit, restrained yet buzzing aromas of seasoned oak, chalk and flint. A really elegant and structured palate shows white fruits, ginger, and dried honey with a vigorous acidity and almost stark minerality. A sensational wine with decades ahead of it." - Decanter

"The 2019 Terlaner Grand Cuvée Primo is youthfully backward and delicate, requiring coaxing to release its sweetly scented bouquet of peach skins, raw almonds, whole cream and smoke. It envelopes the senses with an elegant wave of ripe orchard fruits and spice, boasting medium-bodied textures, yet also vibrant acidity that works to balance the expression perfectly. A saline tinge lingers through the finale, along with pretty inner florals and hints of chamomile, as this tapers off incredibly fresh. The 2019 Grand Cuvée Primo is going to require cellaring to fully express itself. What a darling. It’s a blend of 70% Pinot Bianco, 28% Chardonnay and 2% Sauvignon Blanc." - Vinous

"The Alps and the Mediterranean meet in a glass! Mountain freshness (think wild herbs) and bright fruit (think Amalfi lemon) come together in a wine that marries a stack of fine tannins with wet-stone minerality on the the tightly wound palate. Make no mistake, this has been built for very long aging, so decant to aerate, if you drink it any time soon. Breathtaking energy at the very long finish." - James Suckling
