Pinot-Bianco | Grape variety

Originally a French white wine grape variety, Pinot Blanc is now also widely grown in northern Italy. Pinot Blanc has a delicate almond aroma, animating acidity and good persistence. It produces its most splendid variants in South Tyrol, whose variants, some of which are aged in barriques, display considerable complexity.

Not only the name, but also the high demands of Pinot Blanc on soil and climate indicate a relationship with Pinot Noir. And these demands are high: Pinot-Bianco prefers preferably warm, deep and strong soils in exposed, dry-sunny locations. In the right location, however, the grape variety causes few problems in cultivation.

The dry, elegant Pinot Blanc is an ideal menu wine. The subtle aroma is often reminiscent of apple, pear, apricot and citrus. The medium body of the Pinot Blanc and the pleasantly refreshing acidity distinguish it as a versatile food companion. Thus, Pinot Blanc pairs well with seafood, fish, veal, pork and poultry. Of course, Pinot Bianco also cuts a fine figure as a well-chilled patio wine. - Gerardo [TS11/23]
