Pinot-Grigio | Grape variety

The red-skinned white wine grape variety Pinot-Grigio is known in German-speaking countries as Grauer Burgunder or Ruländer. Pinot Grigio is consistently vinified dry in Italy and is medium-bodied with only discreet acidity. A young, light Pinot Gris is mild and medium-bodied and thus well suited as a summer wine.

Grey Burgundy is often vinified in steel tanks, but is also well suited for aging in large wooden barrels or in barrique. High quality Pinot Grigio has aromas of nuts, almonds and fresh butter - as well as fruity aromas which are reminiscent of pear, dried fruit, pineapple and citrus. In addition, vegetative (slightly vegetal) notes of green beans or peppers often appear in Pinot Gris. - Gerardo [TS01/23]

Pinot Grigio is one of the most popular white wine varieties in Italy and is grown in many parts of the country. The grape variety originated in Burgundy in France, but has spread worldwide and has gained particular importance in Italy.

In Italy, Pinot Grigio is grown mainly in the regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. These regions have optimal climatic conditions for the cultivation of Pinot Grigio, producing wines with a balance of acidity and fruitiness. Wines from Veneto often have a fresh and light character with aromas of green apples and citrus fruits, while wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia are more powerful and complex, with notes of peaches and apricots.

Pinot Grigio is often considered an uncomplicated and refreshing wine, ideal for summer. Most Pinot Grigios are produced unfiltered and uncolored to preserve their natural character. However, some winemakers produce more stylish Pinot Grigios that are aged in barriques and have a stronger texture and more complex flavors.

Pinot Grigio is excellent as an aperitif or with light dishes such as fish or salads. Because it is a light wine, it is also easy to drink and pairs easily with many different flavors.

Overall, Pinot Grigio is a very versatile wine that has something to offer wine lovers of all tastes. Whether you are looking for a fresh and light wine for summer or a stronger and more complex wine for special occasions, Pinot Grigio offers a wide range of options. With its pleasant taste and ability to pair with many dishes, Pinot Grigio is a wine you should definitely try. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
