Lazio | Wine region
Besides wine, Lazio grows mainly cereals, corn and vegetables. Areas of volcanic origin such as the Alban Hills, the Sabine Mountains, etc., are particularly suitable for viticulture. Also the olive thrives well on volcanic soils and limestone soils.
Already from the Etruscans learned the Latins, the natives of Lazio, the viticulture. From here come such world-famous wines as Frascati, which was one of the first Italian wines exported to Germany. Shrouded in legend is the Est! Est!!! Est!!! di Montefiascone, which the servant of a cardinal is said to have discovered as a taster during a trip to Rome. Among the white varieties, Trebbiano and Malvasia predominate, while among the reds one finds Cesanese, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot, Ciliegiolo and also Cabernet. - Gerardo
