Lombardy | White Wine

The wine-growing region of Lombardy is located between Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda in the Po Valley and is relatively small with a vineyard area of about 27,000 hectares. Nevertheless, wines of great quality are produced here. Among the important white varieties are Chardonnay, grown mainly in the Franciacorta region, and Trebbiano di Lugana or Pinot Blanc. Within a few decades, this has managed to become the leading sparkling wine producer in Italy in terms of quality. Among the main red grape varieties of Lombardy is especially Nebbiolo, which produces very full-bodied red wines. - Gerardo [TS07/22]

"The white wine is composed of Trebbiano Toscano, Garganega, other local and other white wine varieties. Worthy of note is the Lugana DOC, a white wine made mostly from the 'nobler' species of Trebbiano, but also from table wines made from international varieties, which has generated a wide and positive response in the wine world." - Slow Wine

Lombardy is a region in northern Italy known for its excellent wines. Especially the production of white wines has gained importance in Lombardy in recent years. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters, which allows the cultivation of grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Trebbiano.

One of the most famous white wines of Lombardy is Franciacorta, made from the Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. This wine is particularly known for its fine perlage and elegant taste and is considered one of the best Italian sparkling wines. Franciacorta is produced according to the traditional method and may only come from certain sites in the region.

Another famous white wine from Lombardy is Pinot Grigio delle Venezie, produced from the sites around Lake Garda and the Po River. This wine is characterized by its fine acidity and fresh fruitiness and is available both as a dry and semi-dry wine. Sauvignon Blanc from Lombardy has also gained popularity recently. This grape variety grows in the higher elevations of the region and produces wines with distinct aromas of citrus and green peppers.

Lombardy is also known for the production of Trebbiano di Lombardia, a white wine made from the grape variety of the same name. This wine is known for its fresh and fruity taste and is often served as an aperitif or with light meals. Overall, Lombardy offers a wide range of white wines, known for both their quality and variety. These wines are perfect for any occasion and offer a wide choice for both beginners and connoisseurs. - Gerardo [TS01/23]
