Blog: Di Majo Norante | Molise

In a region where, despite the most ancient traditions - dating back to the presence of the Sannites and the Romans -, viticulture has never played a significant role in general agriculture, the Di Majo Norante represent, in two respects, a meritorious, solitary reference point in terms of quality wine production. The farm in Campomarino, a commune north of Gargano and just a few kilometers outside Termoli, was founded by the ancestors of Luigi di Majo Norante and his son Alessio already in the last century, and the only, painful interruption of grape production was due to the destruction caused by phylloxera.

In the sixties a new press house was built and at the same time the first vineyards were planted in the hills of Ramitello. With their northeastern exposure, their calcareous, loose soils, brushed by constant summer winds, these vineyards have given their name to the most important wines of the estate.

With them, the Di Majo have proven that even in Molise, which only recently has DOC wines with the Biferno and the Petro, qualities can be produced. The range of the winery has been greatly expanded in recent years, and in addition to Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Aglianico, Trebbiano and Malvasia, typical Mediterranean varieties such as Falanghina, Greco and Fiano have appeared. The line of 'new wines from old vineyards' interprets these varieties, among the best of the Mediterranean, in a modern style. - Gerardo [TS08/22]
