"From a pergola-trained vineyard of between 80 and 110 years old at an elevation of 450 m above sea level in the Gschleier cru in Girlan. Soils are limestone, clay and gravel. Fermented in stainless steel. Total skin-contact time around 20 days. Aged for nine months in large oak casks and a further six months in bottle. The wine has exceptional ageing potential of at least 10 years and regularly double that. Lustrous but just mid ruby. Subdued nose of minerally stony raspberry fruit. Deep and complex. Elegant palate of juicy raspberry fruit with serious, finely ground tannins. Just at the beginning of its development. Lots of class. A monumental Vernatsch." - Walter Speller
