Corvina | Grape variety

Originating from the picturesque province Verona, the Corvina grape variety is an integral part of the northern Italian wine world and is almost exclusively native to Veneto. Its roots go deep into the history of the region and are closely linked to the development of some of northern Italy's most renowned wines. Corvina forms the backbone of wines such as Bardolino and especially Valpolicella, where it is often blended with Rondinella and Molinara in cuvées. This combination produces lively, fruity red wines with characteristic freshness, elegant structure and a fine spiciness. Corvina plays a decisive role here, as it gives the wines color, aromas of cherry and plum as well as balanced acidity and supple tannins.

However, Corvina is much more than a reliable cuvée partner. In selected locations, it also shows its full potential as a single-varietal wine - especially in high-quality appassimento processes such as Amarone della Valpolicella, where the grapes are dried before vinification. This technique enhances the aromas and gives the wine depth, density and impressive ageing potential. Despite its regional limitations, Corvina has secured a firm place in the Italian wine landscape thanks to its versatility and expressiveness. It is not only a reflection of the Veronese terroir, but also a living expression of the wine tradition of northern Italy - charming, full of character and unmistakable. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
