Veneto | White Wine
Veneto, in the national language Veneto, with its tourist stronghold Venice, is one of the most popular wine regions in Italy. It is bordered by Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the east, Trentino-Alto Adige to the northwest, Lombardy and Lake Garda to the west, and Emilia-Romagna to the south. With nearly 75,000 hectares of vineyards, the area is one of the three largest wine regions in the country. Wine growing in Veneto takes place mainly in the plains on the Adriatic coast, on the Po River, in the mountains around Lake Garda and up to Vittorio Veneto. In these areas are grown mainly the white varieties Garganega, Glera, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Trebbiano and, with increasing percentage, Chardonnay and for red wines, Rondinella, Corvina Veronese and increasingly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Veneto, in the north of Italy, has always been a reliable supplier of many types of white wines. The wines produced there are always fresh, lean and light and intended for early consumption. With few exceptions, the classic summer, aperitif and just-for-fun wines of Italy are found here.
