Very close to the famous abbey of Sant'Antimo, Tenuta San Giorgio, established in 1982, is located in the municipality of Montalcino. Located on the top of a ridge at 400 meters above sea level, the views are simply breathtaking. With 28 hectares, the majority of the land is planted with vines, and olive trees thrive on another four hectares. The grape variety cultivated is exclusively Sangiovese Grosso, which is the basis for outstanding Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino. The vineyards are optimally oriented to the east and southeast, they are located on steep rocky slopes at altitudes between 250 and 450 meters. The vines are planted on sandy slate subsoil, with significant amounts of clay, loam and lime, which provides the roots of the vines with a good quantity of minerals. The roots can absorb a good quantity of minerals. In addition, the sites are well aerated, which favors healthy grape ripening.

In sum, these factors form the basis for the production of red wines with true greatness - which is confirmed at Tenuta San Giorgio with each vintage. The high quality standards are manifested in meticulous work at all levels of the production cycle: Grape selection for Brunello Ugolforte is strict, fermentation takes place with extended maceration to achieve maximum aromatic complexity. Once fermentation is complete, the red wine is then aged in traditional 30 hectoliters of large wood for a period of 36 months. After the cuvée is completed, the Ugolforte is allowed to rest in the bottle for another 12 months. The result is a Brunello of exceptional authenticity and with a distinct personality. However, its little brother, the stylish Ciampoleto Rosso di Montalcino, also cuts an excellent figure with its excellent price-performance ratio. - Gerardo [TS06/22]
