Magnum Bottles | White Wine
Magnum bottles and even larger formats such as double magnums or jeroboams have long been more than just an eye-catcher when it comes to Italian white wines - they stand for quality, maturity and winemaker pride. Especially in renowned wine regions such as South Tyrol, Friuli, Tuscany or Campania, many winegrowers only fill these large-format bottles with their best and longest-lived white wine vintages. Whether a mineral Chardonnay from the Dolomites, a complex Greco di Tufo or an elegant Sauvignon Blanc from the Eisack Valley - the large formats ensure particularly fine and harmonious ageing. Due to the lower amount of oxygen per liter, the wines in magnum bottles mature more slowly and in a more balanced way. This allows them to gain structure, finesse and depth over time without losing freshness or clarity. The magnum is the ideal format for wines with ageing potential - and there are more of these in Italian white wines than is generally assumed.
Added to this is the high level of effort involved in these special bottles. Bottling is often done manually, as are the capping and labeling - a painstaking process that is reflected in the value of each individual bottle. This is why the price of a magnum bottle cannot simply be doubled - rather, it is an expression of dedication to craftsmanship and a clear qualitative selection. White wines in magnum bottles not only offer an impressive enjoyment experience, but also an exciting ageing potential, which is particularly evident in classic varieties such as Fiano, Verdicchio, Lugana or Pinot Bianco. If you choose an Italian magnum bottle of white wine, you don't just get more wine - you get more character, elegance and the promise of a special moment. - Gerardo [TS04/25]
