Cabernet-Sauvignon | Grape variety
Cabernet-Sauvignon is considered the most famous and widely planted red wine grape in the world, originating from the Bordeaux region in France. From there, it has spread over the centuries to almost every major wine-growing region globally and is highly valued in Italy as well—both as a single-varietal wine and as an essential component of many high-quality blends, especially in the so-called 'Super Tuscans.' The variety is renowned for its rich structure, impressive and complex aroma, and excellent aging potential, allowing the wines to develop greater depth and elegance over many years.
Wines made from Cabernet-Sauvignon are known for their powerful character and typical flavors of blackcurrant (cassis) and green bell pepper, often complemented by notes of cedarwood, tobacco, and sometimes dark chocolate. One of the unique strengths of this grape variety is its distinctive bouquet and flavor profile, which remains recognizable even under a wide range of climatic and soil conditions. Thanks to their full body and pronounced tannins, Cabernet-Sauvignon wines are excellent companions to robust dishes, particularly roasted beef or lamb, but also pair well with game and aged cheeses. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
