Sparkling and semi-sparkling wines | Frizzante & Spumante
Prosecco is one of the best-known Italian sparkling wines and comes exclusively from protected cultivation areas in the north-east of Italy, particularly around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Made from the Glera grape, it is usually produced through a second fermentation in stainless steel tanks. There are two main varieties: the lightly sparkling Frizzante with low carbonic acidity and the Spumante, which is considered a full-fledged sparkling wine with a fine mousseux.
However, many high-quality Frizzante and Spumante are also produced outside the Prosecco zone, for example from Moscato, Lambrusco or Chardonnay. These come from regions such as Emilia-Romagna or Apulia and often offer an excellent price-pleasure ratio. Whether as an aperitif or accompaniment to a meal, Italian sparkling and semi-sparkling wines are synonymous with lightness, freshness and Mediterranean joie de vivre. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
