Story: Poggio di Sotto | Toskana
Page: 1/1

Fattoria Poggio di Sotto was founded at the end of the 80s, it is located on a hill southeast of Montalcino. From the beginning, the goal was to bottle the best possible Sangiovese qualities, and within a short time the winery has achieved the greatest reputation. The winery is located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate at the foot of Monte Amiata - arguably one of the most spectacular, exciting sites in the entire Montalcino region. Here the vineyards rise steeply, the highest sites are at 450 meters above sea level and offer optimal conditions for the Sangiovese vines, which here produce wines full of finesse, with their cool style almost reminiscent of growths from Bourgogne.

In addition to the climatic determinants, other factors play a decisive role in the outstanding qualities: in addition to the selection of the vines, which is perfectly adapted to the terroir, and the optimal planting density, the work in the vineyard is carried out according to strict quality criteria. So at all levels of production, work is done at the highest level - and yet at Poggio di Sotto, the quest for the best possible quality is taken even further to the extreme: Nearly half of the great Brunelli are voluntarily graded to Rosso di Montalcino! The vast majority of Montalcino winemakers would probably be happy to press a Brunello with the class of this Rosso. Since 2011, Poggio di Sotto has been part of the ColleMassari family, and since then they have continued to work to produce nothing less than one of the best wines in Italy. - Gerardo [TS06/22]
