Tiefenbrunner | South Tyrol
Historical roots and family tradition
Tiefenbrunner looks back on a long and eventful history: the first documented references to the “Linticlar” estate date back to 1225. Turmhof Castle has been in the family since 1675, and official wine production began with its entry in the commercial register in 1848. The Tiefenbrunner family has been running the business for many generations, currently by Sabine and Christof together with their children Anna and Johannes. For them, wine is not just a business, but part of their family identity—they feel obliged to respectfully continue the legacy and shape it for the future.

Location, terroir, and climatic characteristics
The vineyards are scattered along the South Tyrolean Wine Route in the municipalities of Kurtatsch, Margreid, and Entiklar. The altitudes range from 210 to 1,000 meters, which opens up a wide climatic spectrum. The soils vary considerably: from limestone- and clay-rich slopes to porphyritic, stony plots, the spectrum is wide. This terroir, combined with the interplay of Mediterranean sun and cool fall winds, promotes slow ripening of the grapes, high aroma concentration, and pronounced minerality.

Philosophy, sustainability, and innovation
Tiefenbrunner is strongly committed to sustainability: for decades, the estate has been largely self-sufficient in energy, thanks to its own hydroelectric power plant, which has been in operation since 1910, and a newly added photovoltaic system. Viticulture is carried out with care, yields are reduced, and variety-specific plant protection methods serve an environmentally friendly approach. In the cellar, you will find modern technology, but also traditional maturation methods - depending on the wine, the right combination to bring out its personality and origin to the fullest.

Wine lines and grape variety spectrum
Tiefenbrunner divides its wines into four quality lines:

· Merus: fresh, accessible wines with clear varietal characteristics
· Turmhof: harmonious and structured wines from selected vineyards
· Linticlarus: complex, elegant wines with high aging potential
· Vigna: top wines from single vineyards with special quality characteristics

The range of grape varieties includes around 12 different types. The white wines include Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, while the red wines include Pinot Noir, Lagrein, and other regional and international varieties.

A special highlight: Feldmarschall von Fenner Müller-Thurgau
An iconic wine from Tiefenbrunner is the Feldmarschall von Fenner Müller-Thurgau, which was specially honored in an “In Memoriam” edition of the 2015 vintage. This wine comes from the highest Müller-Thurgau vineyard in Europe (on the Fennberg) and, thanks to its origin and careful cultivation, has a remarkable freshness, elegance, and mineral depth. It represents the history, innovative potential, and connection to its origins of the winery.

Significance for the region & outlook
Tiefenbrunner is one of South Tyrol's most influential wineries because it masterfully combines tradition, innovation, and sustainability. With its commitment to single-vineyard wines, ecological energy production, and a holistic wine style, it is a beacon for modern, responsible viticulture in the Alps. Looking to the future, the winery could further expand its Vigna characteristics, develop new vineyards, or strengthen its sustainability architecture with additional climate-friendly measures. - Gerardo [TS12/25]
