Wilhelm Walch | Alto Adige
The Wilhelm Walch winery is one of South Tyrol's most traditional businesses, impressively combining history, terroir, and a modern philosophy of quality. Founded in 1869 in Tramin, it is now run by the fifth generation - the Walch family is committed to the typical characteristics of Alto Adige, sustainable viticultural practices, and a balanced combination of indigenous and international grape varieties. The old monastery cellar and modern cellar technology symbolize the bridge between the past and the present.
The vineyards stretch along the sun-exposed slopes of the Mendel at an altitude of between 250 and 700 meters, on very steep plots with dolomite rock and limestone-rich soils. This location, the climate of alpine freshness and Mediterranean warmth, and the manual labor in the vineyard shape the character of the wines: clear, precise, balanced. The range extends from elegant white wines to characterful red wines and varietal specialties—a highlight is the Vernatsch and Lagrein-based St. Magdalener, which powerfully embodies the traditional side of the winery. - Gerardo [TS12/25]
