The vines of this variety produce a relatively low yield, generally harvested in the last days of October. Cagnulari produces a range of wines that are very deep in color and very strong in aroma. In addition, these wines have the ability to age very well, which is admirable. This grape variety is a very old red wine variety, grown mainly in the area around the city of Sassari in Sardinia. The wines produced from this red grape are very elegant.

In winemaking, this grape variety can be used either as a single variety or blended with other grape varieties such as Cannonau to produce different interesting and structured wines. The vine of this variety has the ability to settle quickly and therefore can be called native vine of the region of Sassari. The berry is black, medium size, spherical with thick, firm, black-purple skin. The cluster is medium sized, cylindrical-conical, sometimes winged, semi-dense with a large, three-lobed leaf. The Cagnulari variety has medium vigor and a medium-late ripening period. The Cagnulari vine produces a ruby red wine. The bouquet is fruity with hints of berries.
