More than fifty years ago grandfather Min laid the foundation, father Livio Zorzettig built on it and Massimo and Marco Zorzettig, who together with mother Gabriella preserve the family tradition, continue the story with their winery La Tunella. They and their invaluable collaborators, including the outstanding oenologist and friend Luigino Zamparo, combine innovation and experience, new developments and the time-tested tradition of the Colli Orientali del Friuli.
In the wines of La Tunella one finds the invigorating freshness of new and creative energies. However, the past, the experience and the tradition always remain the solid and constant nucleus from which the future can sprout day after day. The 70 hectares of the La Tunella winery are all located in the DOC production area and are entirely planted with vines in a 70:30 ratio, i.e. 70% for white wines and 30% for red wines.
This division reflects the tradition and focus of the Colli Orientali dei Friuli production area, which has always been a white wine region par excellence. The vines are trained according to the traditional Guyot method and the Friulian monocapovolto (high trunk with overhang). The average planting density is 4,500 to 5,000 vines per hectare. Yields are limited to 7,500 to 9,000 kg per hectare to improve the quality of the grapes.
La Tunella's wines range from classic, single-vineyard reds and whites to renowned cuvées such as Sauvignon Colmatiss and Biancosesto and Trockenbeerenauslesen. All are the result of decades of work and careful refinement of the high quality autochthonous grape varieties of the Colli Orientali. - Gerardo [TS06/22]
