Silvaner | Grape variety

Just the sound of the name Silvaner opens many possibilities about the origin of the grape variety. For years, its mysterious origin posed riddles and kept scientists around the world busy. Recent genetic research has shown that Silvaner is a cross between Traminer and an autochthonous grape variety from Austria. This seems to prove that the home of Silvaner is the Alpine region.

Silvaner vines provide rather restrained wines of mild acidity, but also strong variants are known - these complement the regional cuisine in an excellent way. Because Silvaner means variety. Whether an uncomplicated summer wine, a smooth and creamy barrique wine or a lively 'großes Gewächs" - there is hardly a role which Silvaner does not master perfectly. It is also worth mentioning that the Silvaner grape variety always perfectly reflects its terroir and skillfully combines earthy notes with delicate and fruity aromas. Along with Riesling, Silvaner is also the German grape variety par excellence, but the South Tyrolean variants are also well worth trying. - Gerardo [TS06/23]

"Contrary to what is still widely believed, in the meantime some winemakers have succeeded in producing truly great and original wines, despite restrictive yield limitations." - Falstaff
