Tuscany | Wine region

Tuscany - a landscape of longing that has captivated people from all over the world for generations. Rolling hills criss-cross the region, lined with majestic cypress trees, ancient olive groves and extensive vineyards. Here, on the mineral-rich soils of clay, marl and limestone, some of the most renowned wines in the world thrive. First and foremost, Chianti, the epitome of Italian wine culture, whose reputation extends far beyond the country's borders. But Tuscany is much more than just home to big names - it is a symbol of a wine-growing tradition that goes back thousands of years, with roots dating back to Etruscan times.

In recent decades, Tuscany has made a significant contribution to the renewal of Italian viticulture. In particular, the careful research and selection of indigenous grape varieties has ushered in a new era of quality awareness. The region's most important grape, Sangiovese, presents itself in numerous facets - from the elegant, fruity variety in Chianti Classico to the powerful, long-lasting interpretation in Brunello di Montalcino, which is based on the noble Sangiovese Grosso. Modern clone selections as part of the Chianti Classico research project have helped to further refine the range of grape varieties and rejuvenate the appellation with targeted new plantings and replantings. Thanks to these progressive approaches, Tuscany today combines tradition and innovation at the highest level. - Gerardo [TS02/25]

"Overall, however, there is a general move toward increasingly precise, legible versions with more reference to terroir and greater authenticity. The message that more independent, unadulterated wines are well received, especially abroad, seems to be gradually being heard. In this respect, small but noticeable progress can be seen." - Gambero Rosso

Tuscany - the epitome of Italian wine culture and one of the country's most important wine regions - combines centuries-old tradition with state-of-the-art oenology. Nestled in gently rolling hills, criss-crossed by endless rows of vines and ancient olive groves, the region offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of fine wines. The mineral-rich soils of clay, marl and limestone in particular give the wines their characteristic structure and depth. Tuscany is particularly famous around the world for its red wines, which impress with both their variety and their exceptional quality. The basis is the Sangiovese grape, which in its various forms - from Sangiovese Grosso to Prugnolo Gentile - shapes the identity of Tuscan wines.

Chianti is considered the flagship of the region and impresses with its intense aromas, lively acidity and spicy character. It is an excellent accompaniment to meat dishes or mature cheese. The Brunello di Montalcino, which is made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso, is even more powerful and impresses with its complex structure and remarkable ageing potential. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, whose main grape variety Prugnolo Gentile is a variant of Sangiovese, offers a harmonious balance of fruit and spice. However, white grape varieties such as Vermentino also have a firm place in Tuscany. With its fresh citrus notes and fine minerality, this wine offers a summery alternative to full-bodied red wines. Thanks to targeted clone selection and sustainable cultivation methods, Tuscan winegrowers have paved the way for a new generation of high-quality wines in recent decades. Tuscany thus remains not only a region of great classics, but also a center for innovation and excellent wine quality. - Gerardo [TS01/25]
