Cantina Terlan | South Tyrol
The Story of Cantina Terlano: Tradition and Quality Since 1893
Founded in 1893 in the heart of the Terlano wine region, Cantina Terlano is one of South Tyrol’s pioneering wine cooperatives. Back then, 24 visionary winegrowers joined forces to improve production and marketing. Today, the cooperative includes over 160 members cultivating around 190 hectares of vineyards. With an annual production of approximately 1.4 million bottles, Cantina Terlano has become one of the region’s leading and most renowned wineries.

Authenticity and Longevity: The Hallmarks of Terlano Wines
Terlan has always stood for authentic, long-lived wines that are treasured around the world. This is made possible by the mineral-rich, austere soils and the unique microclimate of the region. Combined with conscious yield reduction, these factors result in wines of exceptional concentration, freshness, and stability. This philosophy, passed down through generations, ensures Terlano wines are true classics with great aging potential.

Quality Through Careful Production and Technical Expertise
Quality assurance begins in the vineyard: meticulous manual labor, sustainable cultivation, and close collaboration among growers are essential. Under the guidance of experienced oenologist Rudi Kofler, the modern winery produces approximately 70% white and 30% red wines, all with DOC classification. The focus during vinification is always on highlighting the unique characteristics of the terroir and preserving the individuality of each vineyard plot.

Expertise in White Wines: Sauvignon Winkl & Sauvignon Quarz
The winery’s focus has always been on white wines. The two flagship Sauvignons, “Winkl” and “Quarz,” stand out as the estate’s signature wines, impressing with their fruitiness, elegance, and remarkable longevity. Careful vineyard management and precise vinification result in unique wines that reinforce Terlano’s international reputation as a quality producer.

Mastery in Red Wines: Lagrein Porphyr
Alongside its renowned white wines, Cantina Terlano also excels in red winemaking, exemplified by the Lagrein Porphyr. This powerful and profound red wine is distinguished by its dense structure and complex aromas. It reflects the passion and craftsmanship of Terlano’s winegrowers and adds another dimension to the winery’s portfolio.

The Terlano Terroir: Microclimate and Soil Diversity
The vineyards of Cantina Terlano stretch from gentle valley floors to steep mountain slopes with gradients of up to 70 percent and elevations between 250 and 900 meters. The southern exposure ensures intense sunlight, while the mineral-rich, austere soils and unique microclimate provide ideal conditions for growing characterful wines. These unique factors shape the unmistakable style of Terlano wines.

Sister Winery Andrian: A Partnership for Quality and Tradition
An important part of the Cantina Terlano group is its close connection with sister winery Cantina Andrian. Both estates share a passion for quality and tradition, enriching the heritage of South Tyrolean wine culture. Through their partnership and the creation of unique wines, Terlano and Andrian remain prominent names in the international wine world.

Preserving Wine Tradition: The Unique Wine Archive
Cantina Terlano places great importance on preserving its wine tradition. A true highlight is its unique wine archive, where around 100,000 bottles from nearly every vintage since 1955 are stored—some rarities even date back to the founding year 1893. These treasures are not only a testament to past vintages but also a living piece of wine history that continues to fascinate wine lovers from around the globe.

Conclusion
Cantina Terlano is a shining example of the successful combination of tradition, innovation, and uncompromising quality. With its dedication to authentic, long-lived wines and the preservation of cultural heritage, Terlano has shaped South Tyrol’s wine landscape for over 130 years and enjoys the highest international acclaim. - Gerardo [TS05/25]

"The meticulous classification of each winemaker's vineyard reflects this cooperative's intimate relationship with its growing region. The perfect interpretation of the diverse terroirs is the result of the stable and persistent success of these mineral, progressive wines that glide quietly through the years, as shown by the stocks of old bottles put aside since the time of Sebastian Stocker." - Gambero Rosso
