The cellar cooperative in Tramin was founded in 1898 by the Viennese member of parliament, Pastor Schrott, and escaped dissolution by a hair's breadth during the Second World War. In 1971 the winery merged with the Neumarkt cooperative. After a landslide in Tramin had almost completely destroyed the winery, the rebuilding provided an opportunity to install state-of-the-art grape processing equipment and air-conditioned wine storage. Since 1992, the Tramin winery has also maintained a modern wine shop in its buildings. Naturally, Gewürztraminer is one of Tramin's flagship wines. However, through the merger with the Neumarkt winery, the range has also been expanded to include Lagrein, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc from the best sites. Special attention is paid to Vernatsch, the best wines of which are marketed under the names Freisingerhof and Hexenbichler - the latter from 60 to 100-year-old vineyards in which rare, old varieties have survived. Outstanding top wines made from strictly selected grapes are offered with the Cru line, as single-vineyard wines under the name Selektion Terminum, but are not produced every year. - Gerardo [TS12/22]
