Story: Chianti Classico | Classic
Chianti Classico
An authentic Chianti Classico is based on at least 80% Sangiovese, the most important and most demanding grape variety in Tuscany, which gives it its characteristic freshness and lively acidity. Aromas of ripe cherries, plums and a subtle spiciness characterize the wine. Supplemented by small proportions of other traditional varieties such as Canaiolo and Colorino, the Chianti Classico develops a structure and depth that give it an individual, distinctive signature. With its lively acidity and elegant tannins, it has excellent ageing potential and presents itself both youthfully fresh and matured with inimitable balance.
Chianti Classico Riserva
The Chianti Classico Riserva represents an even more exquisite quality level. It matures for at least 24 months, including several months in the bottle, before it is released onto the market. The longer maturation period gives it a deep, complex structure. Aromas of dried fruit, leather and fine mineral notes unfold and make the wine appear more velvety and harmonious. The Riserva version stands out from the regular bottling due to its enormous depth of flavor and is an expression of the dedication with which winegrowers in the Chianti Classico region cultivate their craft.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
At the top is the Gran Selezione, the most exclusive class of Chianti Classico. The Gran Selezione is made exclusively from the best grapes of a vintage and selected vineyards. Maturation lasts at least 30 months, giving this wine its complex, full-bodied texture and allowing an extraordinary variety of aromas to unfold. In addition to the classic fruit and spice notes, there are also nuances of tobacco, dark chocolate and dried herbs. The velvety tannins and excellent balance between acidity and body make it the pinnacle of Tuscan wine culture.
The three quality levels of Chianti Classico - from regular Chianti Classico to Riserva and Gran Selezione - reflect the essence of Tuscan winemaking. The region itself, with its Mediterranean climate and mineral soils, contributes significantly to the character of the wines and makes each bottle an ambassador for Tuscany. Every sip is a journey through the landscapes and traditions of this unique terroir, which has inspired winemakers and delighted wine connoisseurs worldwide for centuries. A Chianti Classico is not just a pleasure, but an invitation to experience the culture and history of Italy in its purest form. - Gerardo [TS01/24]
