The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a hybrid grape originally created by crossing Cabernet Franc (a red grape variety) and Sauvignon Blanc (a white grape variety). Cabernet Sauvignon wines are available as single varietal wines (made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes) and as blends. Cabernet grapes are very present in blends and are often blended with other strong, complementary grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied, acidic wine made from the red grape variety of the same name. It has strong tannins that mellow with age. Cabernet Sauvignon wines have a high alcohol content, usually between 13 and 14%.

Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by ripe black cherry aromas that can impart a hint of sweetness, as well as strong black currant notes. The wines usually reach an alcohol content of about 14%, but can still have a considerable acidity. When blended in large quantities with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon can dominate the blend, with most Tuscan producers striving to find a particular balance that suits their desired style.

Some Cabernet Sauvignon wines are lush and fruity, while others are spicy and smoky. It all depends on where the Cabernet Sauvignon is grown and how it is made into wine.
