Grape variety
Depending on the area of cultivation, a distinction is made between different varieties of Vermentino:
Vermentino di Mejlogu comes from the wine-growing area of Bonnanaro in the province of Sassari. It is considered the most full-bodied representative of its type. Vermentino di Berchidda has its production area in the Berchidda area in the province of Olbia-Tempio. Vermentino di Alghero comes from the wine-growing area of Alghero in the province of Sassari. A straw yellow wine with greenish reflections, pleasantly aromatic, with a dry, fresh, lively taste. It can be drunk young as an aperitif, with fish hors d'oeuvres or white meat; Monte Santu has about 12, sometimes 14-15% alcohol. Also worth mentioning are Vermentino della Romangia; di Monti, S'Eleme, di Sorso, di Berchidda and finally Badesi, Usini and Luras. Among the most famous and best representatives of its kind is Vermentino di Gallura. It comes from numerous municipalities in the area of Gallura in the province of Sassari and two municipalities in the province of Nuoro. Last but not least, the Vermentinio di Sardegna, that is to say, without indicating the location, can come from the entire region of the island of Sardinia.
The 'Aragosta' from the Cantina Santa Maria la Palma is considered the most famous performer of the Sardinian white wine at all. This is due in part to the consistent quality management and the successful brand image. With its distinctive identifying mark par excellence, the lobster, 'Aragosta' has become synonymous over the decades with Sardinian white wine and Vermentino in particular. It is a convincing example of a good value and quality white wine from Sardinia. - Gerardo [TS06/22]
