A rooted vision - the founding of Cantina Rauscedo
Cantina Rauscedo was founded in 1951 by around 200 committed winegrowers - as a cooperative project with a clear mission: to collectively process the grapes of its members into high-quality wines. What once began in a small, community-run cellar has developed into a modern yet tradition-conscious winegrowers' cooperative over the course of more than 70 years. Today, Rauscedo stands for living winegrowing culture in Friuli, supported by people whose knowledge, passion and deep connection to the region form the foundation for today's success story.
With a strong foundation of values and an open eye for progress, the Cantina has continued to develop. In recent years, massive investments have been made in cellar technology and modern vinification processes. But despite all the technical innovations, the soul of the winery remains unchanged: authentic, collaborative and deeply rooted in the Friulian terroir.
Quality meets accessibility
One of the hallmarks of Cantina Rauscedo is the remarkable price-performance ratio of its wines. While prices have remained stable for many years, the quality has steadily increased - to a level that can compete with top vineyards such as Collio or South Tyrol. Nevertheless, the wines have remained accessible, making them a real insider tip for discerning connoisseurs.
The portfolio ranges from fresh, mineral white wines such as Pinot Grigio, Friulano or Sauvignon Blanc to elegant, finely structured red wines. The Cantina knows how to bring out the characteristics of the grape varieties precisely - in wines that reveal their origins while remaining modern and easy to drink.
Rauscedo - center of the vine world
Rauscedo is much more than just a winegrowing village: it is internationally regarded as the heart of the vine nursery industry. With over 83 million rooted and grafted vines exported worldwide every year, the village is a global hotspot for vine propagation. This specialist knowledge of the origins of each vine also flows directly into the work of the Cantina - a unique advantage that is reflected in the vitality and quality of the wines.
This close connection to plant biology is not just of a technical nature, but is deeply rooted in culture. Here, wine is not just a product - it is the basis of life, a carrier of tradition and an expression of decades of experience.
Terroir with character: stone, water, climate
The vineyards of Cantina Rauscedo stretch along the Tagliamento, Meduna and Cellina rivers, whose impetuous courses characterize the landscape. The vineyards lie on gravel-rich alluvial soils, known as “clap” - stones - in the local dialect. These white pebbles store the sun's heat during the day and release it evenly at night. In combination with the alpine breeze and the humid sea air, this creates a microclimate that is ideal for viticulture.
Regular rain also ensures a steady supply of water without stressing the vines. The interplay of soil, air and water is the basis for healthy, mineral and expressive wines - real character wines with depth.
Wine as a social link
In Rauscedo they say: “Water divides people, wine unites them.” This saying is not only poetic, but also an expression of the cultural role of wine in the region. Cantina Rauscedo lives this philosophy - as a place of togetherness, cooperation and the passing on of knowledge across generations. Today, more than 200 winegrowers tend the vines with dedication, patience and a clear sense for the right moment - from pruning to harvest.
Here it is understood that wine is not an industrial product, but the result of a living process. Nature dictates the rhythm, man accompanies it with respect, experience and manual work. This is craftsmanship in its most original and beautiful form.
Tradition meets modernity
The exterior of Cantina Rauscedo is also changing: the appearance has been modernized and the labels and packaging reflect the new self-image between tradition and innovation. The modern architecture of the winery combines functional elements from the post-war period with today's requirements - clear lines, open spaces, modern technology.
But despite all the modernization, the decisive factor remains the same: a deep respect for nature, the vines and the idea of community. The wines from Rauscedo carry the soul of their origins - honest, powerful, unifying - and are ambassadors of a region that proudly shows its roots while looking firmly to the future. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
