The history of the Psenner distillery
The Psenner distillery has stood for the highest art of distillation and authentic South Tyrolean distilling tradition for decades. The company was founded by Ludwig Psenner, whose passion for grappa and fruit brandies laid the foundations for a success story that continues to this day.
The beginning of a vision
Ludwig Psenner was born in 1920 near Tramin, a region known for its excellent wines. He discovered his enthusiasm for distillation at an early age and acquired an in-depth knowledge of the production of grappa and fruit brandies. With great determination, he realized his dream of owning his own distillery and commissioned his first stills at the age of just 27. Initially, he worked with two employees and improvised means of transportation to acquire the best grape marc from local wineries and winegrowers. Thanks to his talent and dedication, the distillery grew in reputation until Ludwig Psenner was considered a recognized authority in the field of distillation. As a result, he was the only representative of South Tyrol to be invited to Rome to participate in the development of a set of rules for Italian grappa.
The pioneering achievement in the field of fruit brandies
In 1952, Ludwig Psenner decided to extend his expertise to the production of fruit brandies. In collaboration with a Swiss company, he developed the Williams brandy, which he was the first to distil in this form. This fruit brandy proved to be a great market success and quickly found enthusiastic buyers in many European countries. Within a short space of time, Psenner became the largest Williams distillery in Italy and one of the leading ones in Europe.
The expansion of the distillery
An important milestone in the company's development was the acquisition of 70 hectares of agricultural land, which were converted into orchards. This step not only ensured the quality of the raw materials, but was also a forward-looking decision with regard to the traceability of production. Having control over the entire cultivation process allowed Psenner to ensure consistent top quality and set itself apart from many other producers.
In addition to the focus on traditional craftsmanship, Psenner has always emphasized technological advancement. Modern distillation methods and innovative production processes ensure that the company can maintain and further develop its high quality standards. This combination of decades of experience, continuous improvement and uncompromising quality standards makes the Psenner distillery one of the most respected distilleries at home and abroad.
Tradition and innovation in perfect harmony
Today, the Psenner distillery offers a wide range of products that meet the highest standards. Thanks to careful processing and special distillation processes, products are created that reflect the unique character of South Tyrol. The combination of traditional craftsmanship, innovative spirit and the use of first-class raw materials has made Psenner a permanent fixture in the world of fine brandies. The history of this family business impressively demonstrates how passion, vision and perseverance can lead to lasting success. - Gerardo [TS03/25]
