Cagnulari | Grape variety
The grape variety Cagnulari, also known as Graciano, originally comes from Spain but has gained particular importance on the Italian island of Sardinia. There, it is used both as a single-varietal wine and in blends, especially in the region around Sassari in the northwest of the island. The grape thrives in Sardinia’s warm, Mediterranean climate and benefits from the mineral-rich soils, which positively influence the quality and complexity of the wines. In recent years, Cagnulari has experienced a revival, as more and more winemakers recognize the potential of this indigenous variety and produce high-quality wines from it.
The resulting Cagnulari red wine is characterized by a deep, ruby-red color, high tannin levels, and a pronounced extract richness. Its noticeable acidity gives the wine freshness and structure, while the strong, spicy aroma is reminiscent of dark berries, herbs, and sometimes violets. Thanks to its structure and high tannin content, Cagnulari is particularly suitable for aging and develops additional complexity and depth over the years. These qualities make it an interesting choice for wine enthusiasts who appreciate characterful, long-lived red wines. - Gerardo [TS05/25]
