Prosecco | Grape variety
Basically, real Prosecco comes from the hill zone between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano. The mild and balanced microclimate of the southern foothills of the Alps allows a constant high quality in these hilly areas, with moderate grape yields. The classic Prosecco zone is very narrowly defined: It lies in the triangle between the towns of Valdobbiadene, Vittorio Veneto and Conegliano. To the south, the zone borders the Piave River with its last spurs of hills that form a kind of cauldron at the Pietro Bernardi winery near Susegana. The plantations are on the slopes facing south, the gentle and temperate climate of the southern Prealps has a favorable effect on viticulture. Unfortunately, in modern times, Prosecco products are increasingly found without precise designation of origin - the exact indication 'di Conegliano Valdobbiadene' is desirable to distinguish genuine Prosecco from other sparkling wine products. - Gerardo
