Teroldego | Grape variety
Already in 1383 the red wine variety Teroldego was mentioned in documents for the first time. It is an autochthonous grape variety from the north of Italy. It is mainly cultivated in the Rotaliano plain in the province of Trentino. The grape variety is characterized by a dark, fruity red wine, which has a low expression of tannins, that is, vegetable tannins.
In the Rotaliano plain, the Teroldego grape variety grows at an altitude of about 220 meters above sea level in a rather lean gravelly soil. It is closely related to the Lagrein, Marzemino and Dureza varieties, which was confirmed by genetic analysis in 2004. The Teroldego grape is used mainly in dry red wines, but also in rosé.
There are two possible derivations for the origin of the name Teroldego. First, in the municipality of Mezzolombardo, located in the province of Trentino, there is a district called Teroldeghe, which is believed to be the origin of the name. It is also possible that it derives from the German expression 'Tiroler Gold'. The grape variety has a relatively low occurrence and for a long time was almost forgotten. It was not until the 1980s that Tereldego experienced a renaissance thanks to winemaker Elisabetta Foradori. She proved how much potential there is in the old grape variety, which until then had often been neglected. - Gerardo

Calto · Rosso Veronese IGT 2017Marion, Veneto
Going with the flow has never been the intention of the Campedelli family, which is behind the Marion winery. This is evident not only in the unusual for the Veneto grape varieties such as Teroldego, but also in the fantasy cuvee 'Calto'. This prestigious wine is nothing other than a very personal interpretation of Amarone, which, however, cannot be marketed as such due to legal regulations. The proportion of Teroldego provides additional fire, accordingly, this wine is intense:
