Teroldego | Grape variety

Already in 1383 the red wine variety Teroldego was mentioned in documents for the first time. It is an autochthonous grape variety from the north of Italy. It is mainly cultivated in the Rotaliano plain in the province of Trentino. The grape variety is characterized by a dark, fruity red wine, which has a low expression of tannins, that is, vegetable tannins.

In the Rotaliano plain, the Teroldego grape variety grows at an altitude of about 220 meters above sea level in a rather lean gravelly soil. It is closely related to the Lagrein, Marzemino and Dureza varieties, which was confirmed by genetic analysis in 2004. The Teroldego grape is used mainly in dry red wines, but also in rosé.

There are two possible derivations for the origin of the name Teroldego. First, in the municipality of Mezzolombardo, located in the province of Trentino, there is a district called Teroldeghe, which is believed to be the origin of the name. It is also possible that it derives from the German expression 'Tiroler Gold'. The grape variety has a relatively low occurrence and for a long time was almost forgotten. It was not until the 1980s that Tereldego experienced a renaissance thanks to winemaker Elisabetta Foradori. She proved how much potential there is in the old grape variety, which until then had often been neglected. - Gerardo

´Borgo´ · Valpolicella DOC 2021, Marion, Venetien

Borgo · Valpolicella DOC 2021

Marion, Veneto

Everything but a simple Valpolicella: At Marion, even the entry-level wine receives similar care as a first growth. The Valpolicella Borgomarcellise is a tangy and fruit-driven red wine, but by no means banal: medium ruby in the glass, delicate hints of wild berries, plums and sweet cherries. Silky and smooth on the palate, and of medium finish. - Gerardo [TS04/22]

"The 2021 Valpolicella Borgo opens with a mentholated air and crushed wild berry fruits. This is wickedly fresh, with a pretty inner sweetness contrasted by depth of tart raspberry. It finishes with medium length and a savory herbal tinge, leaving the mouth watering for more." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

Teroldego IGT 2019, Marion, Venetien

Teroldego IGT 2019

Marion, Veneto

Dense, concentrated crimson color with bright violet hues. Aroma of blackberries, violets and spicy herbs. Full and rich palate with amazing minerality and high density tannin structure. Persistent finish. - Gerardo [TS04/20]

"The decision to cultivate the Teroldego vine happened more or less by chance, but not the procurement of selected clones from the house of Elisabetta Foradori, the 'patron goddess' of this variety. Today, in any case, this wine convinces with aromatic richness and solid taste." - Gambero Rosso

"Intense! A beguiling blend of crushed rocks, sage and black raspberries bursts from the glass as the 2019 Teroldego makes itself known. Spicy and full of tension, this smooths over the palate with silky textures, quickly gaining in youthful potency as masses of tart wild berry fruit and saline mineral tones saturate. It finishes spicy and long with a tart concentration and rosy inner florals, as a coating of grippy tannins pinches at the cheeks. The 2019 will require cellaring to show its best but has the balance for a long and steady evolution." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous)
