Story: Raffaela Bissoni | Emilia-Romagna

A winery with history and vision
On the way from the medieval town of Bertinoro to the tranquil village of Casticciano, nestled in the rolling hills of Romagna, stands a picturesque manor house surrounded by well-tended vineyards and dense woodland. This is the Bissoni winery, which was founded in 1988 by Raffaella Bissoni. The landscape unfolds here in all its splendor, and on a clear day the view extends as far as the Adriatic Sea, whose fresh breezes shape the terroir in a unique way.
The soul of Romagna in every drop
The Bissoni vineyard extends over 12 hectares, six of which are planted with vines. The vineyards at an altitude of around 200 meters offer ideal conditions for two grape varieties that are inextricably linked to Romagna: Sangiovese and Albana. These two varieties are emblematic of the region's rich winemaking tradition, which dates back to the time of the ancient Romans. Legend even has it that Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius, was treated to an Albana wine during a stay in Bertinoro. Enthusiastic about its quality, she exclaimed: 'You are not worthy of such a coarse cup, O wine, but to drink you in gold! This is how the name of the place is said to have originated, which to this day is synonymous with top-class wines.
Sustainability as a lived principle
Respect for nature, a deep connection with the land and a tireless work culture - these are the values that drive Raffaella Bissoni. Her philosophy is based on a harmonious cycle of give and take. The wood from the surrounding forests is used for heating, the ash from the ovens is returned to the soil as fertilizer, and the grass between the vines is only cut three times a year to preserve a natural diversity of plants and insects. This conscious interaction with nature promotes a living soil microbiome, which is reflected in the complexity and depth of the wines. Nature, Raffaella believes, always gives back generously what is given to it with respect.
A terroir full of character and elegance
Cantina Bissoni is not just a winery, but a life project in which Raffaella and her family work daily with passion and perseverance to realize their vision of excellent wine. Her wines are characterized by elegance, structure and finesse and reflect the unmistakable identity of their terroir, which is rich in history and culture.
As soon as you enter the winery's courtyard, it becomes clear that a different approach is being taken here: Wild plants and flowers grow freely, and it is not uncommon for hares or deer to roam the rows of vines. A large part of the land is deliberately kept wooded in order to preserve the ecological balance. Herbicides or aggressive pesticides are nowhere to be found here; instead, Raffaella relies on integrated pest management and ecologically compatible cultivation methods.
A winery with a future
The Bissoni winery stands for natural, sustainable wine production that relies on tradition, craftsmanship and a deep appreciation of the terroir. Every drop of wine tells the story of this special landscape and the people who preserve it. When you enjoy a Bissoni wine, you not only taste the essence of Romagna, but also the dedication and philosophy of a winemaker who is fully committed to perfection in the bottle. - Gerardo [TS03/25]
