Casisano - A Tuscan jewel in Montalcino
The Tommasi family's journey to Montalcino is a story of patience, determination and the search for perfection. Casisano, an impressive 53-hectare vineyard in the south-east of Montalcino, has been part of this ambitious wine-growing project since 2015. Back in 1997, Tommasi ventured beyond Veneto with the aim of gaining a foothold in Italy's best wine-growing regions. However, it took almost two decades for the vision of becoming one of Montalcino's leading wineries to become a reality.

A spectacular natural terrace with a unique terroir
Casisano is perched on a natural terrace 480 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views over rolling hills, vineyards, forests and olive groves. The driveway through a country lane lined with oak trees reveals the incomparable beauty of the vineyard. But it's not just the landscape that is impressive - the terroir is just as impressive.

The soils of Casisano consist of a complex mixture of galestro, sandstone, marl and tuff of volcanic origin. These poor, well-aerated soils ensure that the vines take deep root and produce grapes of exceptional quality. The Mediterranean breezes and the pronounced temperature fluctuations between day and night promote slow, even ripening and give the wines their characteristic elegance and structure.

Sangiovese Grosso takes center stage
Casisano's focus is on the noble Sangiovese Grosso grape variety, which thrives here under optimal conditions. Nine of the 22 hectares of vineyards are classified as cru sites and produce grapes of particularly high concentration and complexity. In addition to the famous Brunello di Montalcino, the grapes for the Rosso di Montalcino are cultivated on seven hectares, while a further six hectares are reserved for Sant'Antimo.

A special treasure of the estate is the Colombaiolo vineyard. This oldest and highest quality parcel is dedicated exclusively to the production of Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The result is a wine with exceptional finesse, depth and impressive ageing potential - a true flagship of the region.

Elegance and longevity as trademarks
Casisano wines are characterized by a harmonious combination of structure, acidity and elegance. Careful work in the vineyard and cellar makes it possible to create wines that are both accessible in their youth and storable for decades. “It is our privilege to give Sangiovese Grosso its own character and a strong identity,” emphasizes Fabio Mecca, the winery's oenologist.

Casisano is not just a place where wine is produced - it is a terroir that reflects its history, tradition and exceptional location in every bottle. The Tommasi family has not only acquired a winery here, but has realized a vision: the perfection of Sangiovese Grosso in one of Italy's most fascinating wine-growing regions. - Gerardo [TS03/25]
