This St. Magdalener, which bears the seal of quality (also known as the protection mark), takes its name from the St. Maddalena hill in the north of Bolzano. Vernatsch and Lagrein grow side by side in a mixed vineyard there. The two grapes are traditionally harvested and fermented together, resulting in an outstanding St. Magdalener Classico:

Gerardo's Notes: The hill of St. Magdalena in the north of Bolzano gives its name to this South Tyrolean classic. Vernatsch and Lagrein grow side by side in the vineyard and produce a powerful version of the pure Vernatsch, the 'Queen of Vernatsch'. This St. Magdalener grows on loose moraine debris soils on the hills of St. Magdalena, St. Justina and Leitach at 200 to 500 meters above sea level.
