  The “Mauritius” Lagrein-Merlot from the Bolzano Winery is a masterful cuvée that combines the characteristics of two worlds: the deep spiciness of Lagrein and the velvety elegance of Merlot. The name “Mauritius” is derived from the Latin “San Maurizio” (Moritzing), a small village near Gries, whose warm, fertile soils form the basis for this wine. The grapes thrive in the best locations of Siebeneich and Gries near Bolzano, where the combination of Mediterranean climate and alpine freshness creates ideal conditions for the vines. After traditional fermentation in wooden barrels, the wine matures for about a year in French barriques and large wooden barrels, giving it additional depth and complexity.

In the glass, Mauritius presents itself in a deep garnet red and exudes an intense bouquet of ripe wild berries, cocoa, and spicy notes. On the palate, it is dense and complex with fine, well-integrated tannins and a long, harmonious finish. This wine is a prime example of the craftsmanship of the Bolzano Winery and an expression of South Tyrol's unique terroirs.
