The history of Produttori del Barbaresco: tradition and quality since 1884
The origins of today's Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative go back a long way. The Cantina Sociale del Castello, a predecessor organization of today's cooperative, was founded back in 1884. The initiator and driving force behind this foundation was Domizio Cavazza, one of the historical personalities of Piedmontese viticulture. Under his influence and commitment, the association began to produce wines of remarkable quality.

A new beginning under difficult circumstances
Despite its promising start, the Cantina Sociale del Castello dissolved under the pressure of fascism. It was not until 1958, on the initiative of the local priest Don Fiorino Marengo, that a new start was made. This was the beginning of a new era for wine production in the Barbaresco region.

The importance of the Barbaresco growing area
The Barbaresco wine-growing area, nestled in the wine-rich region of Piedmont in north-western Italy, is known for its high-quality wines, especially Barbaresco. This area comprises the four villages of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco as well as a total of 700 hectares of vineyards for the Nebbiolo grape, from which 3.8 million bottles of Barbaresco are produced each year.

Focus on quality
Today, the members of the Produttori del Barbaresco control almost a quarter of the total area under Barbaresco vines, with a proud 95 hectares. These vineyards are characterized by their calcareous marl soils, which give the wines a unique character. The cooperative is committed to the quality of its wines and continuously invests in the modernization of its production facilities, including the renewal of all the wooden barrels in the cellars.

Diversity through the uniqueness of the vineyards
The Produttori del Barbaresco produce various wines, including Barbaresco D.O.C.G. and Nebbiolo Langhe. Particularly in outstanding vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced, which come from nine classic premium vineyards within the Barbaresco village boundaries. These wines bear the names of their historic growing areas and are an expression of the uniqueness and diversity of the Barbaresco terroir.

The tradition of single-vineyard wines
The single-vineyard Barbarescos of the Produttori del Barbaresco are only released after four years under the Riserva program. These wines come from selected grapes from nine historic premium vineyards within the Barbaresco village boundaries. Their names, such as Asili, Montefico, Montestefano and others, have been known for centuries for the high quality of their grapes and contribute to the worldwide reputation of Barbaresco. - Gerardo [TS03/24]
