Amarone della Valpolicella | Classic
Amarone della Valpolicella is a fascinating phenomenon of Italian wine culture - even though its success story is still relatively young compared to other great red wines of the country. Originally from the northern Italian region of Veneto, more precisely from the picturesque hilly landscape of the Valpolicella area northwest of Verona, Amarone has developed into one of Italy's most prestigious and characterful wines in just a few decades. Today, its name is mentioned in the same breath as Barolo and Brunello - and with good reason.
Amarone owes its uniqueness to a traditional and elaborate production process known as the appassimento method. The carefully selected grapes - primarily the Corvina variety, supplemented by Rondinella, Molinara and Corvinone - are dried for several months after harvesting. This process causes the berries to lose most of their water and gain concentration. The result is a wine of exceptional density, aromatic depth and elegant structure. Every sip tells of craftsmanship, patience and a long tradition.
Amarone is a wine for connoisseurs, for quiet moments and special occasions. Its aromas range from dark cherries, dried fruit and cocoa to subtle notes of spices and herbs - often accompanied by a subtle bitterness on the finish, which gives it its name (amaro = bitter). This complexity of flavor makes it not only a meditation wine, but also a versatile food companion, for example with game, mature cheese or dark chocolate.
Its reputation as a monument to Italian winemaking has long been established. Amarone della Valpolicella inspires anew with every bottle - and impressively proves that great wines do not necessarily have to be ancient to achieve legendary status. - Gerardo [TS04/25]
