Brunello di Montalcino Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino | Classic

On the slopes of Tuscany are grown many highly prestigious wines, including Brunello di Montalcino, which is one of the most famous wines in the world. A classic, it is one of the most prestigious quality wines in Italy and is made from Sangiovese vines. Derived from the Latin 'sangio jiovis', which means 'the blood of Jupiter', this is one of the most important grape varieties.

Even the ancient Romans are said to have grown it for their wine. In addition to Brunello, Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulcano, Morellino di Scansano and others are among the most famous wines made from Sangiovese grapes. In production, Brunello di Montalcino is subject to the strict rules of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino: the cultivation and production of the wine are allowed only in the region around Montalcino. The yield and cultivation are strictly prescribed and controlled, and in addition it may only be stored in wooden barrels made of oak or pine. As a sign of its quality, Brunello wears the government seal of approval DOCG (Denominazione d'Origine Controllata e Garantita) as a banderole around its neck. A Brunello needs its time: the aging period is at least four years, two of which are in wooden barrels - this gives it a smooth maturity and an intense aroma that passes from the wood into the wine. On the palate, the quality Tuscan wine has a tart, fruity complexity. Brunello di Montalcino is also characterized by its clear and rich red color, which can approach the color of pomegranates. - Gerardo [TS10/23]
