Chianti Classico | Classic
Chianti Classico is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious red wines in Italy and is unmistakable thanks to the symbol of the black cockerel (Gallo Nero) on the label. This iconic Italian wine is characterized by its historical fidelity to tradition, which is preserved both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The designation “Chianti Classico DOCG” is awarded when the wine is made predominantly from Sangiovese grapes with a small proportion of complementary red grape varieties and meets the highest quality standards. If it reaches a maturation period of at least 24 months in wooden barrels, it may bear the prestigious designation “Riserva”.
The “Gran Selezione” quality level was introduced in 2013 - the highest category in Chianti Classico, reserved for only the best wines. Chianti Classico occupies a prominent position within the numerous sub-zones of Chianti, as it is characterized by particularly strict production rules regarding maximum yields, extract content and ripening times. The Chianti Classico Consortium, based in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, enforces these high standards and thus deliberately sets Chianti Classico apart from the rest of the Chianti region. As the embodiment of Tuscan wine culture, Chianti Classico remains an everlasting symbol of the Italian winemaking tradition.
In this section you will find exclusively Chianti Classico. This is usually a little stricter and more tannic than the Chianti DOCG, this you will find in a separate section. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
