The charm of Ca' Lojera
As connoisseurs of fine wines, our aim is to introduce you to the exquisite world of Ca' Lojera Lugana. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the history, production and sensory characteristics of this remarkable wine.

The history of Ca' Lojera
Ca' Lojera has a fascinating history dating back to the 18th century. The vineyards, which are located on the shores of Lake Garda, have been in the family for generations. The family around Ca Lojera Lugana has a deep connection with the land and a passion for producing first-class wines.

Ambra and Franco Tiraboschi started making wine almost by chance in 1992. Franco comes from a real estate background, and when he and Ambra found this property for sale, it seemed like too good a deal to pass up. But when the grape harvest came around that year, they couldn't find a buyer for the grapes, so they decided to make their own wine.

The house itself dates back to the 13th century and was the summer residence of the Bishop of Verona. They named the estate Ca' Lojera (house of the wolf in the local dialect) after a local legend according to which wolves protected the houses of smugglers who traded in weapons and black market salt on the shores of Lake Garda.

The production of Lugana
The production of Lugana is an art that requires careful manual work and a deep understanding of the grapes. The vineyards are cultivated with the utmost care and the grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. Vinification takes place under the strict supervision of experienced winemakers who combine traditional methods with modern technology to create a wine of unparalleled sophistication.

The 30 to 40 year old vines are planted on 18 hectares of land rich in the characteristic white clay of Lugana, which was once part of the lake bed. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, but it was once much larger, and the dry lake bed gives the wines a distinct minerality. The most important grape variety in Lugana is the so-called Turbiana or Trebbiano di Lugana, which despite its name is actually Trebbiano. It is much more closely related to the Verdicchio grape from the Marche region (the relationship can be seen in the subtle almond oil note that sometimes appears in the more mature specimens). All Ca' Lojera Lugana wines are made from 100% hand-picked Turbiana grapes, which are fermented and matured in stainless steel.

The 18 hectares of vineyards are all organically farmed, but certification is not sought because they want to avoid the bureaucratic hassle. The Lugana DOC is a fresh, medium-bodied white wine with aromas of stone fruit, green almonds, lemon zest and white flowers. Lugana 'Riserva del Lupo' is made from a selection of later harvested grapes and often has lush and exotic botrytis aromas, although it is dry on the palate. These wines are among the longest-lived whites in Italy, and despite the small production, Ambra and Franco have the privilege of occasionally offering library editions for sale - just ask!

Last but not least, they also produce a small quantity of 'Tur Blanc', a Metodo Classico sparkling wine made from 100% Turbiana, aged on the lees for 48 months and processed without dosage. The passion and commitment of the Tiraboschis is reflected in their wines and in the care of the estate, so you wouldn't guess that this is a second career for the couple.

Sensory characteristics
Lugana is characterized by its unique sensory properties. The wine's pale straw-yellow color seduces the eye, while the bouquet pampers the senses with notes of white flowers and fresh fruit. On the palate, the wine unfolds with a perfect balance of freshness and fullness, accompanied by a subtle minerality that is characteristic of the region.

The ideal combination
The Lugana from Ca' Lojera is versatile and pairs perfectly with a wide variety of dishes. Its lively acidity structure makes it an ideal accompaniment to seafood, pasta dishes and light summer cuisine. It is also ideal as an aperitif and can be enjoyed on various occasions.

Conclusion
The Lugana from Ca' Lojera is a jewel from the Lake Garda region that delights wine lovers all over the world with its elegance and sophistication. Its rich history, careful production and incomparable sensory experience make it a must for every wine connoisseur. Immerse yourself in the world of Ca Lojera Lugana and discover the magic of this exceptional wine. - Gerardo [TS02/24]

"When a work project is also a life project, it strengthens a couple's bond. At least that's what happened with the Tiraboschi family, who have dedicated their lives to their winery on Lake Garda. He is responsible for the production, while she, a spirited and passionate person, is the perfect hostess for visitors. In the clayey and compact vineyards of the plain, they have planted the typical vines for the production of Lugana, while in the vineyards on the hills they have planted allochthonous grape varieties." - Daniele Cernilli (Doctor Wine)
