Lagrein Abtei Muri · 3x Lagrein Riserva 2023 (3er Holzkiste)

  The “Lagrein Riserva Abtei Muri” from the Muri-Gries monastery winery is an impressive homage to the indigenous Lagrein grape variety and a true expression of South Tyrolean terroir art. The grapes come from two historic monastery vineyards in the Gries-Moritzing district near Bolzano, at an altitude of around 250-280 meters on soils composed of alluvial material and Bolzano quartzite porphyry—conditions that promote both structure and minerality. After selective hand harvesting, the mash is fermented in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures for around 14 to 16 months in small oak barrels.

In the glass, the Riserva appears dark garnet red with violet hues - a visual harbinger of its depth and charisma. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherries and barberries, complemented by spicy notes of tobacco, leather, licorice, and eucalyptus, as well as hints of forest floor. On the palate, these rich aromas combine with a velvety texture, well-integrated tannins, and a lively minerality - the finish is long-lasting, stylish, and clearly structured. A wine that pairs excellently with hearty meat dishes or game and at the same time stands as an elegant example of the premium interpretation of the Lagrein grape variety in South Tyrol. - Gerardo [TS10/24]
