Paternoster | Basilicata
The history of the Paternoster winery is inextricably linked to the development of Aglianico del Vulture and the winemaking tradition in Basilicata. For almost a century, the family has devoted itself with passion and dedication to the cultivation of this noble grape variety, which develops its very own expressive power on the volcanic soils of Monte Vulture. The foundation stone for the family business was laid in 1925, when grandfather Anselmo decided to sell the Aglianico, which until then had only been vinified for personal consumption, in bottles for the first time. This was the beginning of a success story that continues to this day.
Over three generations, the Paternoster family has not only cultivated its vineyards, but also preserved the rich heritage that lives on in the old labels, historic tools and the traditional tufa cellars of Barile. Deep roots in the region and an uncompromising dedication to quality have contributed to Paternoster's reputation as one of the most respected wineries for Aglianico del Vulture today.
While Anselmo laid the foundations, it was his son Pino who further developed viticulture and perfected winemaking. Today, his grandson Fabio Mecca continues this philosophy and skillfully combines tradition with modern oenological approaches. Paternoster's wines not only reflect the terroir of Basilicata, but also the decades of experience and craftsmanship that are expressed in every bottle. With an annual production of 150,000 bottles, the winery remains true to its line: excellent quality, respect for history and a deep understanding of the potential of the autochthonous Aglianico grape variety. - Gerardo [TS03/25]
"The success of the wines from the DOC Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata is largely down to the tenacity and talent of the Paternoster family, who have believed in and invested in the potential of the indigenous grape variety for over a century. Anselmo, the founder of the winery, sold the first bottles of Aglianico under the family label in 1925, while his son Pino continued to develop the art of viticulture and winemaking. Today, grandson Fabio Mecca ensures the continuity of an oenological vision that balances tradition and modernity." - Falstaff
