Zaccagnini | Abruzzo

Bolognano is a small town in Abruzzo that keeps great treasures and traditions. It was here that the Zaccagnini family winery was founded in 1978. Since then the company has grown rapidly and persistently, always aiming at absolute quality 'from the grape to the glass'. Today the company operates internationally and covers 150 hectares of beautiful vineyards, which are cared for and controlled at every stage of production. The highest quality, passion and dedication to work have made Tralcetto wines the pride of winemaking in Abruzzo, appreciated all over the world. - Gerardo

"A cornerstone of Abruzzo viticulture for more than 30 years is the Zaccagnini winery in Bolognano. In the modern plant they process the grapes from different areas of the region, especially the hill zone on the Pescara slope of the Majella. Here they obtain drops of every flavor, from the fresh rosés to the ambitious, modern Montepulciano, always making sure that quality and quantity are in proportion." - Gambero Rosso

The Zaccagnini winery is named after the father Ciccio Zaccagnini and produces mainly wines of the line 'Il vino del tralcetto'. These are the well-known wines with the grape style, as on each bottle hangs a piece of vine, the trademark of this line. The vineyards are located in an area called 'Colli di Bolognano" - the hills of Bolognano and extend for about forty kilometers along the sea. The wines of Zaccagnini have always been down-to-earth products, made with love for tradition. To this is added a remarkable modernity of cellar technology up to various avant-garde technologies such as a vacuum press. The different lines of Zaccagnini production, by the way, do not differ primarily in a qualitative hierarchy but in the storage time from production to marketing.

Marcello Zaccagnini considers himself a simple farmer and not a businessman. What is known is his passion for good wine and his instinct for choosing good and loyal employees. Besides the concern for quality, there was the matter of the label and the piece of tethered vine wood, around the neck of the bottle. This almost unique appearance contributed not insignificantly to the branding of Zaccagnini's wines. This emotional message was well understood by wine drinkers, as a small greeting from the vineyards of Abruzzo. This example shows how closely wine is linked to emotions and how close one has come to the goal of arousing interest in wine, subtly with emotions, and keeping it alive for many years.

Zaccagnini's vineyards are located 50 kilometers deep, in the mountainous hinterland of the province of Pescara, in Bolognano; a very remote area, surrounded by high, snow-capped mountains. Protected by a series of mountain ranges, the vineyards are located, similar to an amphitheater. Fresh breezes blow - almost guaranteed - daily, favored by a mountain fortune. The fresh breezes keep the vines free from mildew and the mountains can protect against frost and bad weather. Perhaps the most important aspect dof Zaccagnini's philosophy is to avoid any kind of chemicals in the winemaking process and to produce as naturally as possible. This is achieved by using the best technology, so that the use of chemicals is unnecessary. - Gerardo

"For years, Zaccagnini has managed to maintain a stable balance between quality and quantity. In his historic winery we have now become accustomed to wines of high recognition, which are successful on the market not least because of this: Zaccagnini's 150 hectares of vineyards are located in the Bolognano area on the Colline Pescaresi, business base for his always typical and graceful products." - Gambero Rosso
