Montepulciano | Grape variety
The Montepulciano grape should not be confused with the village of the same name in Tuscany. In the form of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, this variety produces inexpensive and simple drinking wines on the one hand and deep, dark wines with a strong character on the other. The main cultivation area is the Abruzzo region, where the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo of the same name - which must consist of at least 70% of the grape variety - is produced.
From the Montepulciano grapes arise down-to-earth to fine spicy wines that can be strong but also rich in alcohol. In addition, from the grapes also a well-known Rosato - the Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is produced. In addition, the grape variety finds numerous uses in the most diverse Cuvees. - Gerardo [TS01/24]
"The constant improvement of wine quality in Italy in general and the still existing spirit of optimism has not stopped at Abruzzo, so that today you can still get rather inexpensive, but still good red wines from Montepulciano." - Falstaff
