Nieddera | Grape variety

The Nieddera is an outstanding Italian grape variety, found mainly on the beautiful island of Sardinia. Its origins go back a long way and it is closely linked to the rich history and culture of this region. The nieddera vine thrives particularly well in the warm and sunny climatic conditions of Sardinia, and therefore produces wines of remarkable character.

This native grape variety is distinguished by the deep red color it gives to the wines made from it. The nieddera produces complex and full-bodied wines with an impressive tannic structure. Its aromas are often characterized by dark berries, plums and spicy notes. This variety offers high aging potential, which means that the wines gain complexity and depth over time.

In Sardinian wine production, nieddera is often blended with other indigenous grape varieties such as Cannonau or Carignano to create unique cuvees. It is also processed as a mono-cépage wine to fully display its unique characteristics. These wines are often robust, structured and well suited for pairing with Sardinian specialties such as lamb dishes or spicy cheeses.

The nieddera grape is a treasure of Sardinian viticulture and reflects the soul and character of this unique island. Its wines are worth discovering for those interested in the diversity and uniqueness of Italian grape varieties. - Gerardo [TS05/23]

Rosato Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2023, Attilio Contini, Sardinien

Rosato Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2023

Attilio Contini, Sardegna

From the lower Tirso Valley comes the native grape variety Nieddera, which is the basis of this sophisticated Rosato: The color is an intense rosé, subtle crimson with violet reflections. On the nose it has a fine and intense fruity aroma with floral hints. In the drink mild and lively, fresh and harmonious. - Gerardo [TS12/24]

"Deep pink. Mineral-accented aromas of strawberry and blood orange, with a violet topnote building with air. Taut and focused on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering intense red cherry and vanilla flavors of noteworthy purity and clarity. Finishes seamless and long, with subtle spiciness and repeating floral character. This outstanding, flavorful rosato offers noteworthy balance at only 12.5% alcohol." - Ian Domenico D Agata (Guida ai Miglori Vini d Italia)

´I Giganti´ · Isola dei Nuraghi Rosso IGT 2016, Attilio Contini, Sardinien

I Giganti · Isola dei Nuraghi Rosso IGT 2016

Attilio Contini, Sardegna

The color in the glass is a dark ruby red with garnet highlights. The nose is intense, with hints of red fruits and spices, underpinned by balsamic notes. The palate is soft and warm, balanced by finely honed tannins and freshness. - Gerardo [TS12/17]

The namesake giants are a reference to the giants of Mont'e Prama, formerly freestanding sandstone cult statues of the Sardinian nuragic culture. In 1974, the farmer Sisinnio Poddi plowed out the head of one of these statues on the Sinis Peninsula. The forty years of excavation campaigns brought to light other statues, nuraghe models and wall remains. The age of the giants of Mont'e Prama indicates that the oldest free-standing large sculpture in Europe was created in Sardinia, even before a similar development began in Greece.
