Moscato Rosa | Grape variety
The Moscato Rosa is a mutation of the white grape variety Muscat Blanc, with reddish berries. The German name Rosenmuskateller already suggests the bouquet with intense aromas of fragrant rose petals. Rosenmuskateller originated in the Balkans, but has also been found in Sicily, and is now grown only in South Tyrol and sporadically in Trentino. The area under cultivation of the genuine South Tyrolean Rose Muscat is vanishingly small, the resulting mini-quantities a sought-after and long-lived rarity.
Moscato Rosa is one of the rarest grape varieties in the world and produces very low yields. It produces exclusively lush sweet wines with the rose bouquet typical of the variety. Rose Moscato, a full-bodied and complex sweet wine, is a rare and sought-after specialty. - Gerardo
