The history of the Kaltern Winery goes back a long way. It took more than a century for our winery to become what it is today and what it stands for today: professionalism, passion, family community, experience and the highest quality standards.
Today, the Kaltern Winery is one of the most important wineries in South Tyrol, and Kaltern itself is proud of its reputation as the most popular and well-known wine village in the region. But Kaltern is not only a special place for wine lovers and connoisseurs from near and far. The whole village lives with and from wine. Wine is the daily director here, gives and makes work, fills residents and winemakers with pride and is for many here a life's work, which they pursue with great passion - whether in the vineyard, in the cellar, in gastronomy or in trade.The Cantina Kaltern is a large family. It has 650 members or winemakers, most of whom own less than one hectare of land - an average of 0.7 hectares (the size of a soccer field). They are winegrowers by passion and earn their living mostly with other professions. They cultivate their historically grown farms and vineyards with great passion. Kaltern owes them a piece of its picturesque beauty.The wines come from the oldest DOC zone in South Tyrol. They ripen in the best sites around Lake Kaltern. They are wines made with a lot of sensitivity, passion and skill - by a large community, handpicked and with the most modern cellar technology. Toast with us! "Cantina Kaltern is particularly dedicated to the autochthonous Vernatsch, which is still the most cultivated grape variety in Kaltern and is produced under the name 'Kalterersee Classico Superiore'. In total, however, the range includes over 35 wines. The variety offered is due to the different microclimates of the vineyards, which range from 220 to almost 850 meters above sea level - truly impressive. The warm lake climate and the cool downdrafts of the Mendel Mountains, which rise over 1000 meters, make it possible to produce both powerful and structured red wines as well as sparkling and fresh white wines." - Falstaff
